It was a really nice day. The kids loved it seeing the gardens and all the different sections with funny looking flowers as the kids put it.
Would highly recommend a great day out for the whole family!
*Beautiful situation with large lake
* Lovely areas for picnics and tea parties
*Interesting World Garden with many unusual plants
*Fantastic plant sales - e.g. many different Salvias
It’s ok overall, but not sure it would’ve been worth the admission had we not had free entry through our Historic Houses membership.
The world gardens were interesting, the wooded walk was brief but ok, but the house is a little disappointing.
The gardens were decent as it had various world regions represented like Australia, North America, Japan, and more. There were many different types of plants and the signs were good. The downside was some paths were overrun so it was slightly tricky to walk through at points, but interesting.
The house was a disappointment. There are only 8 rooms, and no real signs though one or two volunteers inside. It was a bit lackluster in objects and presentation so we were in and out in about 10 minutes.
Toilets at the front were adequate but everyone can hear you as walls only go up halfway to the ceiling (awkward).
We didn’t try the cafe, but seemed to have a nice rented area with several options.
Such a beautiful place. Staff are so friendly, helpful and knowledgable of the Castle's history.
The gardens and church are equally beautiful and the tea tent is a great place to sit and get refreshments.
Very nice place to visit. Free parking, very nice world garden. Barbecue allowed, lake, walking paths, tea, coffee, and ice cream !
I visited these gardens in a beautiful sunny day and it was so relaxing that if I could I'd have spent here a week. The castle was close so I visited the small Chapel, the world garden with the annex green houses and then totally enjoy peaceful strolls through the gardens with my kids. They love it too.
The area is quite big with a lake on one side which makes the whole place even more peaceful.
There's a small cafe as well where to buy simple things and drinks.
What I enjoyed most is the wide garden (the arboretum) with big trees from all around the world, including a ginkgo biloba (dinosaur tree). Small bridges connect to other spaces across water lines. You are literally in the nature. if you are a nature lover, this place is for you.
I thought to find more flowers but probably I choose the wrong period (beginning of May). Not sure but I guess that probably beginning or middle of April could reserve even a more spectacular show of flowers!
The castle is only open to explore the world garden area because it is still a family home.
We had an excellent walk, The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The world gardens are worth a trip if you are into plans and trees from around the world. I enjoyed a good coffee and a cake, unfortunately the house was closed but that did not detract from the visit.
Good parking.
Dog and family friendly.
Good place to stop for a tea.
